american immigration....

lets discuss this....give me your opinions good or bad...my opinion is this

lets leave teh racism problem out of this because that is a whole other issue in its own...but also related to a degree

multi cultural society is good...we can all learn from each other and bring out the best ideas imporving our way of life...the problem that we face in my opinion is this...we have a dominent langauge of english here, thats just the way it is. its great that immigrants come here legally to better themselves and become american citizens without losing sight on there own culture. i myself am not to concerned with my own culture because to me my culture is american, a blend of everything. i see no problem keeping your culture if that is what you wish to do, to some its very important and i respect that. the problem to me is many many immigrants who come here illeagly and some legally wish to reap teh benifits of this country while at the same time seperating themselves, which of course right now is not a major problem at all, but maybe in 50-100 years it will be. if mexicans or whatever you or they feel comfortable being called keep coming here illegally not assimilating into americans by learning the majority langauge then there will be widespread area on a larger scale now that are only spanish speaking. how can the english speaking and for that matter the rest of the cultures work together for betterment of all people if we are divided by language. now its great its to know more then one langauge, i mean we all know you have a heads up in this world if you know more then one language. in fact ive been led to belive that other cultures speak a vareity of langauges, but the sad truth is americans dont. ok so we now have a culture of spanish speaking spanish and that to me is one form of sepertism. not only will we not be able to co exist and better all humanity but how will they communicate with teh other cultures here, that continue to come over more and more everyday that do not learn the common langauge which is english. in teh future i see the very real possibility of a modern day babylon where we are seperated by language, just so happens that the majority speak english, and whatever is the majority in 100 years will speak their language, it still will be teh same deal as we have now, only their will be the new dominating langauge. if people come over here now and dont want to assimilate into american society as common langauge people, then why would they do it in the future even when lets say spanish is teh majority, get it?? im not saying that english language is the only way. but as it stands its the common language among citizens now. and everyone wants to continue with their own langauge, things will be no different if lets say for example spanish becomes the majorty language. i mean if i move to another country that is non english speaking i would learn the language at teh same time keeping up my own american heritage, but also adapting to their ways and society so i could benifet the most. this could get very much like a modern day babylon and if somthing like that happens, i see the country moving to a sepratist society which is what im against. im for everyone working together so we can all have good lifes...opinions?

again...i am all for everyone keeping their religious beliefs customs and traditions, i just feel that we all need 1 common langauge so we can work together, english being the majority right now. like i said if i went to a non english contrie to live i would learn the common langauge, its common sence that i would get along better there

I understand what you are saying and I agree in a sense - particularly in regards to the worth and value of a multicultural society and the importance of effective communication in creating a strong and stable future for a country. One thing I question, however, is just what opportunities are available for immigrants. Are countries (not just the US but any country) accommodating, welcoming, and forthcoming enough in their deliverance of services, so that migrants may be in a position to maximise their potential to "assimilate" (hate that word) into society and learn the language? It is in everybody's best interests that we be able to communicate, yet perhaps we need to take account of the many difficulties and obstacles that migrants face when entering a new environment - perhaps we are not quite as accomodating and understanding as we should be.

i totally agree with that...the thing is though is that that problem exsists in almost any society in the world...id might go as far as to say that america and australia and europe may be the most open to immigrants from other nations...japan only until recently allowed you to be a citizen if you were of japanese blood...but my argument is indeed weak since i am not an immagrant from another nation. i cant base any argument unless i have felt that experiance..i do know this though if i came into another country i would learn teh common langauge while still keeping my customs...

The problem is that its hard to learn a new language when you're older. But children whos parents are immigrants will learn english and it'll be their first language, just like most Americans/Canadians.

ok i agree with that...but some might argue that in america there is area that are getting bigger that have schools that only teach in spanish...and in those areas there is tv that only play in spanish...and "they" say that that is a growing trend that will continue to get worse and worse...my friend i cannot not back that claim up, i could pull up information off the net but i dont know if its propaganda or reality...yoru thoughts on this would be appreciated...i can actully only agree because i go by the reality of it...i live in a northwest area that is largely populated by mexicans in my particular neighborhood...i cant communicate with many of the spanish living in my complex which is about 200 units, BUT my son plays just fine because the kids all do speak english...but what they say is going on in southern states such as texas, california, arizona

to me, immigration is fine. if it is done legally. i think the language is the least of the problems. the problem with immigration is illegal immigration. the majority of the people who come into this country illegally , we really dont want in our society. they are theives, murderers, rapist, and all around bad people. they know this so they choose to come illegaly. this causes a huge problem on our society. they(the aliens that harm our society) help to over populate our prisons, murder our citizens, cause burdens on tax payers, and take away jobs from americans that need it. if mexico didnt tell their citizens "how to illegally get in the U.S." and actually help us out and their own people we may not have these problems.

We have a lot of illegal immigrants here as well,, i'm all for immigrants,, but don't come here and sit on our wellfare system bludging. I think the west is weak at the moment with immigration, we seem to let anyone come here. Look at england, give refugee's a home and welfare, and they suicide bomb, discracefull. I don't know why the west does not take a harder line on immigration like a lot of asian countries do (japan blacklists certain countries such as pakistan and iran from getting visa's) brilliant idea!!

again you come here, and want to have a better life, you learn the language and asimilate into normal society (like i am doing now), lots of immigrants do it! but a lot dont! hard line approach! (as in,, the same approach as 95% of countries)
