America And Guns

#1
why are guns legal over there, in britain we have maybe 32 or 15 gun crimes a year compared to America which is in the 1000s, people often say.

"to proctect themselves"
but there are weapons out there that could protect u that are alot less life threatening to the other person.

"they should raise the price of bullets"
Hell no, then all the rich assholes would go crazy and feel that they can kill becuz they have the money to buy these bullets, it would also cause a bigger rift between rich and poor.

"we have the right to carry guns"
so, u have the right to have 10 kids even though u have no money and your a drug addict, I KNOW SOME COCKY AMERICAN person on this board is gonna say something like "THERE HARDLY THE SAME THING"

I bet most of these people that have guns have never even been jacked, they prolly watch the news and hear breaking news about "gang violence"
"a black guy going crazy with a gun"
"teens with guns are out there and they listen to Rap/Rock music, they will kill u"
"Man robbs LA shoe shop, it is said that he was listening to the song "theifs theme" by violent gangsta rapper nas, we were going through this rappers catalog of songs and found a song called "remember the times" where his viciouly degrades women and talks about his disgusting sexual exploits"

Blame the Constitution.

No, actually, blame the American people for thinking that the Constitution is the be all & end all.

For God's sake, it's only been altered a few times in the past couple of decades & when was it written?

At a time when everyone needed a gun. I suppose some could argue that people need guns today but not to the same extent & making them illegal would be a big step in the direction of cutting down on gun crime.

That said, there are so many guns in America it would be enar impossible to rid her streets of gun crime.

We were granted the right to bear arms by the founders because during their time they viewed it as means from keeping the government from overpowering the people. They figured that by putting some firepower in the hands of the people, they'd be able to do what America did to Britain if our government became tyrannical. Obviously they could not have foreseen how advanced the weapons technology would become. Even still, I support the right to bear arms, but I also think that they should restrict the weapons (no assault rifles and such) and they should make the process of achieving a license tougher. You should also have to take classes on how to properly use and store one.. for the safety of yourself and the people around you.

I know it's taboo to quote Pac on this board, but I feel it's appropriate:
"So many bodies droppin', it's gotta stop, I wanna help / But still I'm steppin', keep my weapon, must protect myself"

You could argue that banning guns would get rid of the need to protect yourself, but look how well bans on drugs have worked. The fact is that if someone really wants to get a gun and shoot some people up, they'll get the gun whether it's legal or not.

even though its bias, micheal moore is able to portray the opposing side and question america's mentality towards security and safety in the documentary "bowling for columbine"
check it out, and you'll understand a bit more of how guns have always been part of the american culture and how its near impossible to go backwards with the NRA and other policies in place

Making guns illegal wont stop crime and it wont bring down the number of murders.

So that means there is something inherently wrong with American society which leads to Americans killing each other with guns much more than the next European country.

Well said and I cosign.
As a single mother of 3 young children, I feel I should have the right to own a gun if I choose to do so. That way I could defend myself and my children if put into that situation. But I do not own a gun because I'm scared to death of my children getting ahold to it. You could say lock it up in a box where they can't get to it but then if you really needed to use it, are you gonna have time to get the key and unlock that box before someone gets to you? So its sort of a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation.

^Now they are developing "smart guns" that can only be fired by their owners. See, everyone has a unique grip, and this smart gun has sensors that allow it to fire only when it recognizes the unique grip of the shooter. Sounds like a perfect solution for ppl with kids, if they're able to make it foolproof.

But what if you sprained your wrist or lost a finger or something? Surely your grip would change? And wouldn't that mean that only one person would be able to use the gun, meaning that if someone broke into your house your partner wouldn't be able to protect themselves?

If your grip changes for some reason, you get the recognition parameters changed. It would be programmable by a professional. And your partner should have his or her own gun anyway.
