What are good foods to eat after a workout, or are there certain meals you eat usually? Protein shakes are good to drink afterwards aswell right?

Try to get a good deal of fast carbs after workout, as well as some protein. A good example would be a protein drink with some dextrose in it.

i keep reading on different websites to just have protein, or to have protein and carbs, or more protein few carbs, me myself have started having a 3 pieces of chicken with skin took off straight after workout plus a glass of orange juice which has carbs in it, should be enough protein there i think

^uh oh. fruit after a workout is real bad.Fructose will replenish liver glycogen only and leave your muscles starving. You need simple sugars immediately after workout, with some protein,to spike the insulin and get the protein to the muscles ASAP.Like shahin said, protein with dextrose,it's the best combo.

you also need to get some whey protein instead of eating chicken.whey protein is more bioavailable.

one more thing, never have any fat after workout,it will get slapped on your belly right away

i was having lucozade(gatorade i think it is in the states) straight after then bout 10/15 mins the chicken at one point guess that would be better than oj then, plus how much of a difference does it make to use suppliments than to use chicken/tuna, wont eatin chicken still work i know liquid protein suppose to get to the muscles faster or something like that, but is there that much of a big difference

yes it's make a huge difference.if you dont get protein to the muscles in time, the muscle is wasted, and broken down for energy use.

chicken is fine to eat for a meal, but after a workout is the most crucial time to ingest the highest quality and bioavailable nutrients.chicken protein takes a longer time to digest than whey.so if your muscles are starving after a workout, are you gonna let the chicken protein takes its sweet old time to get to the muscles? of course not, you're gonna take whey so it can come to your muscles' rescue.

isnt eating chicken or tuna after a workout doing anything for the muscles and what about if you cant afford to buy ready made suppliments, can you make your own what will work, i found this and it looks ok:
like i said.it takes too long for it to get to your muscles,so after a workout,it's useless.you need a fast protein, which is what whey protein supplements are.

i think it's garbage.100 grams of carbs is 400 calories, add the protein calories, and that's 500 calories, for a shake? protein supps are like 130 calories a shake.theres too many useless calories in there.plus the fact that it still isnt whey protein.you'd be wasting your money.i wouldnt recommend it.

there's cheap whey protein out there, maybe you're looking in the wrong spots.

roughly how much protein do you need to repair the muscles, ive seen the suppliments think the cheapest i saw was 32 pound bout 55 dollars and that was for a 5lb tub, said 100% whey, but didnt say how much ya need put in ya shake, most ive seen seem to be between(hey gangsta ryhme that) 20-40 grams protein per shake, so is this round about how much ya need after a workout ?

My after work-out meal consists of tuna and pasta only. And I also drink my whey-protein while I eat.

What should I add to my meal for "better"?

at least 30 grams,of course 40 or 45g is much better.and the shake after workout doesnt repair all the muscle,it just kicks starts the process.of course you will need to take protein throughout the rest of the day.different sources of protein are ok(tuna, chicken).you should take about 2-3 whey protein shakes a day though.

you should take protein shake after workout, then wait about half hour to an hour then eat your meal.

Chicken or Pasta sounds good but you say it takes too long. So is it possible to eat it right before you workout?
you should eat that kind of meal one hour before AND one hour after workout.

would it be best to have these inbetween meals, ive started doing weights monday to thursday (different muslce groups) and on friday and sunday i will be jogging in the AM on an empty stomach for about 30-40 mins, when i get back from the jog should i consume one of these or wait til after my breakfast, what will probably be a tuna sandwich using brown bread or egg whites on brown toast (well brown bread toast)

have a shake before the jog.i dont know why you would jog on an empty stomach.that's not a good thing to do.

and yes take them between meals, that's fine.you might want to consume a shake right before you go to bed.

i read if u jog on an empty stomach like not long after u get out of bed it will deplete your liver gly?? <sp i cant remember the word, and u will burn fat rest of day, but also read to have something before you jog, so much contradicting shit lol, but saying that ud need something to give u energy so your probably right, think i read having a lucozade(gatorade) a bit before you jog will give u the energy, im tryna shape up with losing the fat and building/keeping muscles, ive heard its best to jog on the days off from lifting weights, im really tryna get into this as i have already cut my diet eating healthy now, no more microwave meals for me :) is fruit really necassary to keep healthy, as i have hardly no fruit at all and i seem to be ok, hardly get colds, flu and things like that, but i guess they make a good swap for packets of crisps/chips, cakes n shit, plus i have a glass of oj a day so im having some fruit :)

i dont like fruit and it's not neccessary.take a multivitamin instead.

well they say jog on an empty stomach because your liver glycogen is already depleted in the morning,so basically you'll be burning pure fat.while this is true,at the end of the day,you dont end up burning more fat than jogging after having something to eat.when you eat and refill your liver glycogen, you burn it off during the jog, then you burn fat the rest of the day.basically, it's the exact same thing as far as fatloss goes, except jogging on an empty stomach will leave you feeling fatigued during the jog and throughout the rest of the day.
